About Linda
Linda Fantuzzo is a Charleston-based painter whose atmospheric works explore the interplay of light, architecture, and landscape. For more than four decades, she has been a distinctive voice in the Lowcountry art community, creating evocative paintings that invite viewers into quiet, contemplative spaces shaped by memory, light, and place.
Fantuzzo was born in Endicott, New York, and began painting at the age of twelve. She later studied painting and graphics at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia from 1968 to 1973. Shortly after graduating, she moved to Charleston in 1974, drawn by the region’s distinctive light, historic architecture, and growing artistic community. What began as a visit soon became a lifelong creative home.
Early in her career, Fantuzzo explored non-objective painting and mixed-media assemblage. Over time, her work evolved toward a more representational approach, while maintaining the expressive, painterly qualities that define her style. Her paintings often feature architectural fragments, stairways, windows, and ruins set within luminous landscapes—visual metaphors that suggest passage, memory, and possibility. Throughout her work, light itself becomes a central subject, shaping mood and guiding the viewer’s experience.
Fantuzzo’s paintings have been exhibited widely and are included in numerous public and private collections, including the Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston and the Greenville County Museum of Art. She has presented multiple solo museum exhibitions in the Southeast and received a Visual Arts Fellowship from the South Carolina Arts Commission.
In addition to her studio practice, Fantuzzo has played an active role in South Carolina’s arts community, serving as a juror, curator, and advisor for a variety of arts organizations and cultural initiatives. Her work continues to evolve from her studio in Charleston, where the changing light of the coastal landscape remains an enduring source of inspiration.
